This is slow television! In the summer of 1993 the left-wing Dutch broadcaster VPRO did a series of long TV interviews with academic scholars, one of whom was Rosi Braidotti. She was then Professor of Women’s Studies at Utrecht University and one of the very few, and very young, women professors in the Netherlands (when only 2% of professors in the 1990s was female!). The interview ran for three long hours (!) on prime-time Dutch public television. It was interspersed with clips from films and television, chosen by Rosi. The interview is here shortened by the VPRO to 1,5 hours. It is broadcast in the original language, but is accessible to English-speaking viewers: as Rosi speaks English, her words as well as the film clips are subtitled in Dutch (but the Dutch interviewer is not subtitled in English).
Topics that are discussed: science fiction, virtual reality, pornography, abortion rights, gender benders in pop culture, women’s studies, etc etc. The video ends halfway, with a clip from Laurie Anderson!
